TO THE POINT: I lust after fast video. I WANT a nice new VL-BUS 486, but I
figure I have a better strategy in upgrading my video first (first a nice
fat 21 inch when I can afford it and a nice fast 928 board) and milking my
386's value until 586's become cheap.

THE QUESTION: Can I buy a VL-BUS card now (well, soon) and pop it in my 386
isa and expect it to work in a 16 bit mode (I suppose this is analogous to
popping a 16 bit card into an XT, which works for some cards), until I get
a VL-BUS motehrboard. It would be a shame to buy an ISA 928 now (well, when
they come out :) and a VL-BUS motherboard later and then have 16 bit video
on that nice fat bus (DOn't want to hear "32 bits not much better with
an accelerator. My excuse: I'm going to run real time video at 24 bits
in 1280x1024. This is a lie, but explains why I want my video running
on VL-BUS not ISA)

Answers anybody? (Hasty? Roell? anyone else?)

THanks :) (Two 8-)'s if to the answer's yes)
