I have a similiar problem using an older WD8003. The card is configured to
the default address and is detected on boot.

I've tried the above ifconfig and route command (with my IP address) and
variations with little success. Ftp reports a timeout.

I do get a message on the BSD machines console "reject 65531" repeated
as it see's pings or other packets addressed to it.
