Rather intteresting... I have the same problem, different hardware!
Here's the scoop:
386DX-20 no cache, 4MB RAM, Logitech EGA, 80MB IDE, locks up on floppy boot
386DX-33 64K cache, 8MB RAM, ATI VGA Wonder, 2x100MB Rodime IDE, WD8013 works!
486DX-33 256K cache, 16MB RAM, ATI XL, SCSI drives, WD8013 etc etc... works!

Sounds like some incompatible mother board or floppy conroller!

Comments anyone?
