Amusing but irrelevant comment: Pike wrote these editors after the following
statement: "Everybody writes an editor.  It's easy to do and makes them feel
important.  Tell them to work on something useful."

Those of us that this comment was about (a couple of people at Caltech who
got involved in a "I could write a better editor than you" "Oh no you can't,
I can" match, and then spent the night at terminals across the room writing
editors and shouting out to each other what features they had just added)
were quite amused when, a couple of months later, Pike started working on
jim!
